Bochnia is quieter, about an hour from Krakow, and includes the underground boat ride which Wieliczka does not. Pick Wieliczka if you specifically want the cathedral chamber it is famous for; pick Bochnia for the unusual route and the smaller crowd.
Can a day trip and a Krakow night out fit in the same day?
Bochnia is the shorter option and may leave time for an evening activity. After Zakopane, allow for the long journey and traffic; confirm your return time before committing to a fixed evening start.
